President

Caleb Olson

Senior, Mechanical Engineering

Caleb is a fourth-year Mechanical Engineering student, currently in his sixth semester with Michigan Tech Formula SAE. As President, he provides overall leadership and strategic direction for the organization, overseeing project management, team operations, budgeting, sponsorship efforts, and maintaining relationships with the university, industry partners, and supporters.

Some of his most rewarding technical experiences on the team include conducting cornering CFD simulations, developing porous radiator CFD models, and managing the manufacturing of the team’s aerodynamic package for wind tunnel testing. These projects provided valuable opportunities to combine engineering analysis with real-world design and manufacturing challenges.

Looking ahead, he is most excited about continuing to improve vehicle performance while helping the team grow and achieve its long-term goals both on and off the track.

Outside of Formula SAE, he enjoys following motorsports, particularly IMSA racing, spending time with his fiancée, and hanging out with friends.

Chief Engineer

Carter Langdon

Senior, Electrical Engineering

Carter is an Electrical Engineering student graduating in Spring 2027, and he is currently in his sixth semester with Michigan Tech Formula SAE. As Chief Engineer, he provides technical leadership for the entire project, guiding the vehicle’s development at a high level while helping team members align their individual projects with overall goals, performance targets, and design philosophy.

One of his proudest accomplishments was serving as Electrical Director, where he led the development of the car’s complete data acquisition architecture and oversaw the integration of the Haltech Nexus R3 platform into the vehicle. This work played a critical role in enhancing the team’s ability to collect, analyze, and utilize vehicle performance data.

His favorite Formula SAE memory was getting behind the wheel of the car for the first time at an off-season event in August 2024, experiencing firsthand the results of countless hours of design, manufacturing, and testing.

Outside of Formula SAE, he enjoys spending time outdoors camping, hiking, running, kayaking, and snowshoeing.

Powertrain Director

Jason Bates

Junior, Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Technology

Jason is a Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Technology student graduating in Spring 2028. He is currently in his fifth semester with Michigan Tech Formula SAE. As Powertrain Director, he leads the design and development of the team’s powertrain package, focusing on maximizing engine performance and efficiently delivering power to the ground by balancing hands-on execution with high-level strategy.

Some of his favorite projects include developing the 3D-printed cooling system for the F25 vehicle and advancing combustion strategy development for F27 using GT-Power simulations and the team’s in-house dynamometer.

His favorite Formula SAE memory was at the 2026 Competition at Michigan International Speedway, working through challenges to repair the car and watching it successfully cross the finish line during endurance competition. Looking ahead, he is especially excited to see the team’s acceleration performance at competition this year.

Outside of Formula SAE, he enjoys fishing, swimming, and spending time on the water.

Business Director

Amalie Christiansen

Sophomore, Engineering Management

Amalie is a second-year Engineering Management student currently in her second semester with Michigan Tech Formula SAE. As Business Director, she oversees the team’s business operations, including sponsorship outreach, budgeting and financial management, marketing, and social media.

What excites Amalie most about her role is the opportunity to combine business and engineering in a fast-paced, competitive environment. She plays a key role in ensuring the team has the resources, partnerships, and organizational structure needed to succeed.

Outside of Formula SAE, Amalie enjoys hiking, exploring Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and spending time with family and friends.

Chassis Director

Everett Sanders

Senior, Mechanical Engineering

Everett is a fourth-year Mechanical Engineering student currently in his fifth semester with Michigan Tech Formula SAE. As Chassis Director, he is responsible for organizing and overseeing all frame, suspension, steering, and brakes projects while ensuring each subsystem aligns with overall vehicle development objectives.

One of his favorite projects was designing and developing the F26 exhaust manifold, which provided an opportunity to contribute to a critical vehicle system and build hands-on engineering design experience.

His favorite Formula SAE memory was driving the car for the first time in September 2025, where experiencing the results of the team’s hard work firsthand was both exciting and rewarding.

Outside of Formula SAE, he enjoys playing guitar, photography, riding motorcycles, working on his project car, and golfing.

Composites Director

Bennett Buchwitz

Junior, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

Bennett is a third-year Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering student currently in his fourth semester with Michigan Tech Formula SAE. As Composites Director, he leads the design, development, and manufacturing of the team’s composite components, helping ensure the vehicle remains lightweight, durable, and competitive.

Some of his favorite technical projects have included developing the team’s Vehicle Dynamics Lap Time Simulator and contributing to the development of the F26 aerodynamic package. These experiences allowed him to combine analytical engineering work with real-world vehicle performance improvements.

His favorite memory with the team is attending the 2026 Pittsburgh Shootout, where he had the opportunity to see the team’s hard work come together in a competitive environment while making lasting memories with teammates.

Outside of Formula SAE, he enjoys sim racing, video games, drawing, disc golf, and pickleball.

Electrical Director

Joshua Sata

Senior, Robotics Engineering

Josh is a fourth-year Robotics Engineering student currently in his third semester with Michigan Tech Formula SAE.
