EV
2024-2025
The EV team is a small group of cross-disciplinary engineers working to modify a former FSAE chassis to use an electric powertrain. There is a three-phase plan for the Spring 25 semester. We are working to create a low-budget prototype from an industrial motor using compatible power and control products.
This requires elements of all (except composites) IC subteams as it employs chassis modification, powertrain integration, and electrical controls. The EV team is working closely with the IC team to share knowledge and resources to best complete the development of a prototype EV.
The second phase of the development plan is researching the implementation of motors and motor controllers that were used by past enterprises for EV applications. This requires intimate knowledge of motor controllers and the software to use them. The final phase is working to power and implement the Emrax motor and DTI controller that we currently have under simulation development. The current capstone is working with a simulation to configure the motor controller for our use. Beginning in the Fall 25 semester, we will work to bench test the prior motors and Emrax and then implement one or both of them.
